Coming back into the U.S.
When coming back to the U.S., a U.S. Customs agent will ask about your citizenship and whether you have any articles to declare. All you need to do is be honest and courteous.

General Purchases
Due to U.S. Regulations, you will not be able to cross agricultural products back into the U.S., including fruits, vegetables, poultry, pork, or even any exotic animals.

However, many items are exempt from U.S. Customs duties, meaning you can bring home as much as $400 worth of duty-free retail items. Above that, a small tax is assessed. You can also bring back up to one liter of liquor,
for which you will pay a nominal fee.

Medical Purchases
Certain prescription drugs may be purchased in Mexico and brought into the States, provided you have a valid U.S. doctor's prescription.
